When it comes to roofing Schertz has two very different kinds of house. The original town along FM 78 and the railroad has older homes with roofs that have been replaced more than once, while the subdivisions that spread north across Interstate 35 and along FM 3009 since 2000 are often still wearing the roof the builder put on.
Schertz has grown to roughly 44,000 people and reaches across three counties. Most of the city lies in Guadalupe County, but some neighborhoods sit in Bexar or Comal, which matters for things like your appraisal district and which county office holds your records. It borders Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph to the south, Universal City to the west and Cibolo to the east.
Richard Puigdomenech, the owner of PCG Roofing, brings a little over 20 years in construction to every job. Phone (210) 598-8556 or send the form, and he will be the one who calls you back about a free inspection.
Plenty of Schertz houses built in the 2000s still have their original shingles, and after twenty Texas summers those are near the end. We take the old roof off, look over the decking, and lay a new shingle roof. Past customers say the crew finishes fast and leaves things clean.
Not every problem calls for a whole new roof. A lifted ridge cap, a failed boot around a plumbing vent or a few torn tabs can usually be fixed in place, and we will tell you if that is all your house needs.
Schertz sits a few miles north of Converse, where September 11 hail came down hard. Stones that size can bruise a shingle without leaving anything you would notice from the sidewalk, so an inspection is the dependable way to find out.
Hail and wind that hit a roof often mark the siding too, especially on the side facing the storm. We look at the walls during the same visit and can repair or replace damaged siding.
Old Schertz, New Schertz
Near FM 78 and the older part of town, many houses are older, with roofs that have gone through several replacements. On those, the deck underneath is often the question: decades of heat and a past leak or two can leave plywood soft in places, and it is better to find that while the roof is open than after new shingles go on.
The newer neighborhoods off FM 3009 and north of I-35 are a different job. Whole streets there went up in a short span, often with matching roofs from one end of the block to the other. Those roofs age at the same rate, so when one on your street starts shedding grit, the rest are not far behind.
If your subdivision has a homeowners association, check its rules on shingle color before you pick one. Some associations want to approve the choice before any work begins.
After a Storm Passes Through
The September 11, 2026 storm dropped hail of 1.5 to 1.75 inches on Converse and parts of east San Antonio, just south of Schertz and Randolph. We are not saying it hit your street. Being this close to its path is a fair reason to get a free check.
If an inspection does turn up damage, the claim is between you and your insurer, so filing is your call. We can be there when the adjuster comes out to look at the roof, and if the work is approved, we build to the scope your insurer signs off on.
What to Expect When We Come Out
Richard or one of our people gets up on the roof, goes over each slope, and comes down to show you what was found. You get a clear recommendation: fix this spot, replace the roof, or leave it be for now.
If you go ahead, the contract spells out the work in plain English before you sign. Neighbors in Cibolo and Universal City get the same process.

How much does it cost to replace a roof in Schertz?
We do not post prices, because size, pitch, the number of old layers and the condition of the decking all change the number. Richard prices each house after a free inspection, so you get a figure for your roof and not an average.
What is the 25% rule for roofing?
People use the phrase for the idea that once a large share of a roof is damaged, repairing it piecemeal stops making sense. Whether anything like it applies to your house depends on your policy and the city's building rules, so ask your agent and the city. On the roof side, we can tell you how much of yours is actually damaged.
What time of year is best to replace a roof?
Dry stretches in spring and fall are comfortable for the work, but a roof that is leaking should not wait for a season. The right time is when the roof needs it.
My Schertz house was built in the 2000s. Is the roof due?
It may be close. Many original shingle roofs from that period have seen twenty or so Texas summers, and an inspection will tell you whether yours has years left or is near the end.
Did the September 11 hail hit Schertz?
The storm we know of fell on Converse and east San Antonio, just south of Schertz. We are not claiming it reached your street. A free inspection is the way to find out.
Which county is Schertz in?
Mostly Guadalupe County, with parts in Bexar and Comal. The city runs along Interstate 35 northeast of San Antonio and borders Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Universal City and Cibolo.
What Our Customers Say
Reviews left by Puigdomenech Contracting Group customers on Google, shown word for word.
My wife and I were new home owners at the time and very afraid of being burned by the insurance company and any roofers we selected. Puigdomenech came recommended to me by my neighbor, and I am thankful they were.
Naturally, my wife and I very wary of any potential scammers, but at the same time we were ignorant of the process. Richard, with Puigdomenech, was very patient in explaining the process we could expect when submitting a claim to have the roof repaired. As further assurance, everything was laid out in hand written contracts, in plain English without all that "Legal-ese."
The actual roof work was done quickly and looks fantastic. In the years we have had the roof I have not seen a single issue. Unfortunately for Puigdomenech, our insurance company was less than kind and sent these roofers on a years long ordeal in an attempt to obtain final payment. Puigdomenech did not wish to involve my wife and I for fear of stressing out the new home owners, and we thank them for that. But I am pleased to say we were able to obtain final payment (and no longer support that insurance company).
Long story short, we highly recommend Puigdomenech Contracting. They are clearly a reputation and reliability first company. I would definitely recommend them for any contracting needs.
